<br />
So those 10 marine arrived and I have been having a little bit of fun with bionics. This is my first venture into using plastic-card and I have found it very fruitful. This will just be a basic 10 man squad with a combi sergeant, nothing too fancy.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Most of the bionics were created by taking chunks out of the power armour and filling it with a few bits of plastic-card rod to represent pistons electronics. The guy who has his arm lopped off also has a few bristles from a manky pot scrubber shoved in his arm hole to represent a few sheared cables. I also found it very easy to remove the forearm sections as the bionics could just be placed onto the bolter hand.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Will have more content to follow once these guys are all painted up.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Thanks for reading,</div>

<br />
Hello All,<br />
<br />
So this is something a little out of the blue, a 30k army. Me and Callum are currently toying with the idea of the betrayal at calth box (so much so I have 10 of the marines coming, shhh) and naturally I have been exploring the 30k rules. I stumbled across the Imperial Militia and Cults rules, something I knew existed but always thought it was just a way of bringing chaos cultists to 30k. I was wrong.<br />
<br />
The Imperial Militia and Cults army list is what I believe the guard codex should be; heavily customisable units to represent any form of unit from any form of world. You can have everything from hoards of savages armed with crude weapons and knives to power armoured, land raider riding "guardsmen". You can literally field any 28mm model using these rules; roman legionnaires, pirates, Napoleonic infantry or even something like kroot. This excites me.<br />
<br />
Another thing that excites me is cheap models. So when I realise I can grab a box of 60 Napoleonic infantry, do a little work to make then more "futuristic" and field them for about 1000points costing me only £20, I get even more fricking excited. Then we add historic tanks, artillery and we will end up with something awesome.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.perry-miniatures.com/images/plastics/b_16.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://www.perry-miniatures.com/images/plastics/b_16.jpg" width="168" /></a>I bought some dismounted dragoons of perry miniatures. These guys were just to test quality, scale etc. as you get two on a sprue for £1 which is pretty crazy. Being historic scale models, they are much smaller than guardsmen in stature. This will make weapon swaps trickier but we should be able to make do. The bonus of this is it actually makes space marines look big, a good thing in the 30k universe as space marine will be this armies common foe.<br />
<br />
I also had to trim their little moulded bases off an fit them to 25mm rounds. These had the slots covered by a layer of paper and pva, not noticeable when gritted and painted. Trimming the bases was a massive ball ache so I may not bother in the future.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-huYoRWjaeJ0/Vy4X7hB7GFI/AAAAAAAAAXo/mc7Rrq-loDcz52pviMN2s4Uq4dwqk-lrACK4B/s1600/DSC_0414.JPG" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-huYoRWjaeJ0/Vy4X7hB7GFI/AAAAAAAAAXo/mc7Rrq-loDcz52pviMN2s4Uq4dwqk-lrACK4B/s640/DSC_0414.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
These guys painted up well and I was really impressed with the quality. As you can see the poses get a little dull and I very much doubt I will be making a full army from these dudes. So whats the big plan stan?</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>Infantry</b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Victrix makes a great range of Napoleonic infantry which are pretty posable and cheap. I will most likely go for the British Waterloo set. I am secretly super patriotic and could not bring myself to go for a different nation. Using scottish highlanders was very tempting but the novelty of painting tartan would soon wear thin. With this set you get a great range of pose and arm positions meaning that support teams, platoon command squads are all possible. There is also the option of mixing up some of the Perry miniatures sprues to make some riflemen and addition commanders. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Ogryns are the only other infantry in the list that are not your standard "human" model. Victrix also interesting produce some 54mm Napoleonics which could fulfill this role very amusingly. In practice this would look a little off so maybe the option of just making some bionic suits for a few lucky chaps is the best option. Cavalry models could also work very well but it might just be best to leave these big chaps out of the list.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.modelhobbies.co.uk/shop/images/images050808/VX0001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="336" src="https://www.modelhobbies.co.uk/shop/images/images050808/VX0001.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Artillery</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The big hitters in this list seems to be the artillery. You can roll with the big boys, basilisks and Medusas, or take some rapier batteries which can be quad mortars, quad las cannons, quad this and quad that. For this I hope to be using some plastic-card and 3D printing magic to form the artillery pieces. However, Victrix produce an artillery set in which you get 3 cannons and 15 crew members. These cannons could make some nice rapier batteries and the crew could then be divvied up between the bigger guns. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.battlefieldmodels.com/ekmps/shops/hawks/images/british-napleonic-foot-artillery-vx0010--%5B4%5D-110-p.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.battlefieldmodels.com/ekmps/shops/hawks/images/british-napleonic-foot-artillery-vx0010--%5B4%5D-110-p.jpg" height="280" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Tanks!</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Ah yes, it would not be a true Imperium army without fuckoff massive metal boxes sprouting over sized guns. As I have already strayed from games workshop there is no real reason to stick to it for tanks. Now, obviously there were no tanks in the 1800's so we have to get a little imaginative. The Russians created some barmy tanks in the 30's and as these were used in the war there are plenty of model kits around. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For Leman Russ tanks (minus sponsons) a T26 would do the job well enough. At 1/35 scale they come in roughly the same size and with some modifications to the weapons, crew etc. they should fit rather nicely. A bigger bonus is when you find them for £6 a piece on ebay, bonza!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.milicast.com/shop/images/D/BR62%20T26%20M1933.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.milicast.com/shop/images/D/BR62%20T26%20M1933.jpg" height="237" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now did somebody say budget super heavies? No? Well I will be getting some anyway. An what better than the fuckoff massive T35. Seriously, this bastard will be 28cm long if bought in 1/35 which is as long as a baneblade (albeit significantly narrower). With some modeled on sponsons we could probable make something pretty nasty. It also costs around £20 on ebay, not bad.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i707.photobucket.com/albums/ww73/Speedman2k1/Models%202/T-35/Dsc02792_zpsef35397c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i707.photobucket.com/albums/ww73/Speedman2k1/Models%202/T-35/Dsc02792_zpsef35397c.jpg" height="235" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Theme</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I hope to make a traditional "guard" army. This will include a couple of 30 man blobs, a few grenadier squads, a load of artillery and some armoured backup. This will be headed up by a buffmander, and a few medics, "commisars" etc. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These guys will have to be painted red, although I will probably tone them down a little. I will make them a little futuristic but I am hoping just making them coherent with a few tanks and artillery pieces will make them look sci-fi. Oh and a few bionic legs here and there.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
That pretty much sums up what is spinning around in my head right now. I will probably put out something soon when I have written up a list and do a mini review of the milita codex. Crazy times! Lots of good stuff to follow. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Thanks very much for reading guys,</div>

<br />
<br />
Hello All,
<br />
<br />
It has been a while but I am back! With me I bring a load of exciting new content and a few updates to the blog.<br />
<br />
Firstly, the blog. As you may have noticed the labels for our posts have been updated and a handy label list has been added the right of the blog. Now you guys can easily go back and look through various projects with ease. Bonza.<br />
<br />
Now, on to the exciting stuff. Cast your mind back to Easter and you may remember our extraordinarily successful Age of Sigmar battle report. Whether this was due to exceptional video editing or video exposure, the fact of the matter is that age of Sigmar is much more popular than we thought. Rapid model releases and the promised introduction of a fair points system is started to make Age of Sigmar look juicy indeed (Hype!).<br />
<br />
I have painted up 10 of my warriors and the Lord (as some of you may have seen on twitter a while ago). I have pushed the boat out a little with these chaps and tried a different basing technique, a little more highlighting and better attention to detail. <br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We also have some chaos knights thrown in to the mix now. I got 10 of these bad boys but will probably just build up and paint 5 for now.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This will bring my army to a nice little force ready to take on some more puny elves. Next on the shopping list is probably a Lord on a Manticore. Mainly because the model is awesome and I want this army to be a little showy in terms of painting standard. The wise thing however would be getting some ranged support, maybe some goblins or ungors.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

Sorry it's been so long, been very busy with exams and such so here is the first blog post in what seems like eternity! In this post I'm going to talk about list writing for beginners, something that often determines the direction you take your army.<br />
<br />
First things first you need to get hold of the codex of the army you want to collect. It's important that you're interested in the background "fluff" and they way the miniatures are played on the table top. For example if you want just an elite force or similar something like Grey Knights might be best, but if you fancied horde armies then you have a few more options like Tryanids, Orks and an infantry based Astra Militarum could be horde armies. So once you've picked up the codex and read it through it's time to build your army.<br />
<br />
Here it's important to note the ways you can write a list. So you could go for a "Combined Arms" Detachment, this is the standard force organisation that is explained in the rule book with 1 HQ choice and 2 Troops choices minimum. Then you have other detachments and formations that are in each armies codex, well mainly the newer releases. These often have unique requirements and bonus effects. Once we have picked a Primary Detachment you are then allowed secondary detachments,<br />
these can be in the same army or allies.<br />
<br />
Now that we know which ways we can build the army list it's time to sit down and think about what you want to include. For this I would 100% recommend the software "BattleScribe" (here a link to their site: http://www.battlescribe.net/). This is for all computer software's and even mobile apps, and it makes writing a list so easy. Even if you decide not to download their free software you can use good old pen and paper to write up that list.<br />
<br />
As for starting, I tend to start of my armies looking at combined arms detachments, this is because I like my troops to have objective secured and it's really flexible. So start by looking at the minimum requirements. In this case its 1 HQ and 2 Troops. As a beginner it can be daunting having too many models to paint so my advice would be to build your army first to 500 points, then in steps of 250 or 500 afterwards, just makes it easier to get through that painting. The first thing I did when I built my initial 500 points Space Marine list was looked at keeping my HQ choice low cost and then maximising the utility of the troops choices. So I had a 90 point librarian, which also opened up the psychic phase which I like too, and then had two full 10 man squads of tactical marines both with rhino's. In a 500 points game you won't meet many opponents with something these units can't deal with so it's a great way to start.<br />
<br />
After filling out the required slots in 500 points, next I would add an elite choice in their, make them really strong and have that almost take up the next 250 (if you're playing an army with that capapbility) this allows one unit to be on the board that just goes around causing havoc, for this I went with the Assault Terminators. From here the next 250 can go on Heavy Support and maybe a Fast Attack choice, this gives you a well rounded 1000 point list that can do a lot of things and will be good for objectives with the troop choices, most likely with their dedicated transports too.<br />
<br />
Where you go from here is all up to you. 40k is such a flexible game it allows you to take the army you want to take 9 times out of 10. One final point I'd like to make would be to avoid going "Unbound". I hate people who play an unbound list with things that are stupidly good and come with no tax of having to pay for the HQ and Troops choices to make it combined arms. Play someone who in 850 points had: Chapter Master on a Bike, Leman Russ Executioner, Death Company and Assault Marines. I went Battle Forged and got wrecked, feel free to go unbound if you're going to make it fair but don't be the guy that you're friends will love to hate, no one will play against your for good reason,<br />
<br />
Well Thanks for Reading<br />

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Today I am talking about something that I think has done the world of 40k so many favours. As the title suggests I will be discussing the latest 40k box set, Dark Vengeance. Now obviously if you're a 40k veteran you'll know that this box has been out for some time, for those who haven't yet looked into this it is by far the best value for money box released from GW in their history. This £75 (if you actually buy from GW) box is packed with just enough models for 750pts of Dark Angles and just a little less Chaos models too, provided you give appropriate upgrades. For a box that includes two armies, a rules book, templates, dice and measure sticks along with bonus books for learning to play I honestly can't think of much more they could have done for that price.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The models themselves are very nice scuplts and are snap-fit meaning assembley is fast and easy. Sure, there are some gaps that need filling but thats okay, the value for money far surpasses this minor shortcoming. It is for this reason I am desperate to buy and paint all the miniatures in the box set, yes both Chaos and Dark Angles, this is because I both love the sculpts and I really would love to make a "How to play" 40k series. I know there are many other channels that have done this in recent years but I'd like to run through all the steps of the book inside and run through the painting and construction of the box too. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This would be a full video series consisting of simple painting tutorials, assembly, and running through the "Learn to Play" guide from the box set it self, step by step. I'm hoping the inclusion of 2 new armies (with another two that I'm working on anyway) and a nice new video series with games too will help match the wants and needs of my viewing audience on youtube. Do you guys have an thoughts on this idea? I would really like to get a good gauge of what you know so I am able to continue making the content you want to read and watch. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Thanks for reading,</div>

<br />
I have never really touched on how my crimson fists play on the table top. I love a good game just as much as I love a good modelling session. The list I have has more been tailored to fit the models I happen to have rather than the other way round. This has made me realise there are many, many holes and I hope to start turning that around so that by the time I reach 3000 points, I have a good round list.<br />
<br />
So lets cover what I actually want these sons of dorn to do.<br />
<br />
<br />
<b>HQ</b><br />
<a href="http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/warhammer40k/images/b/b8/CrimsonFists.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20120421045622" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/warhammer40k/images/b/b8/CrimsonFists.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20120421045622" height="400" width="275" /></a><b><br /></b><br />
I wanted Pedro straight off the bat, even though he cost a shitton. I never really fielding him until I reached around 1500 point games. To make up for that I have been using some of the honor guard as captains and even converted a chaplain. Hoping to get a librarian sorted soon as I really wish I had some psychic shenanigans. After that I may be looking at getting a Lysander-assaultermator- landraiders deathstar. <br />
<br />
<b>Troops</b><br />
<br />
Obviously I am going to have a fair few tactical marines. They are cheap to buy, fun to play and with the imperial fists chapter tactics they are pretty much ballistic skill 5. Bonza, gotta love them. I went a bit over kill and am now looking at around 40 of the little fuckers and only one rhino. Not so great. The lack of mobility has definitely been crippling me when I play 1500 points plus and I have to field them.<br />
<br />
<b>Elites</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
Other than the swathes of tactical marines, I wanted this army to by quite elite and based around Pedro Bantor. Objective securing sternguard, terminators and honor guard were all picked up. <br />
<br />
The honor guard are only really there because I wanted 10 sternguard and didn't want to use the legs with panty cloths. I thought, "hey, these legs would make great honor guard" and voila, they were born. Not used them yet, probably because I still need to paint them.<br />
<br />
Love the terminators, never really let me down now I have learnt the deep striking them usually causes a hot mess. Not really much tactics going on with these yet, just trudge about and shoot shit.<br />
<br />
The sternguard were the unit I was the msot excited about when starting this Pedro List. The first game I played with them I learned pretty fast they are just posh tactical marines and will get shot dead in one turn. Whoops. I found you either need to drop pod them next the enemys most expensive unit and take as many TEQs with you when you get brutalised next turn or play them carefully, moving through cover and making the most of their special ammo. Either way, these guys are good fun.<br />
<br />
<b>Fast Attack</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
Assault marines! Love these guys, even if I did fork out rrp for them. Good for harassing small stuff and being generally mischievous. They have been somewhat of a learning curve, knowing that attacking other assault units with them just does not go well. These boys are there to slaughter small troop squads, threw a power sword in there for MEQ poking.<br />
<br />
My stormtalon is a pretty neat model. That's about it really, not played it yet so we will see how that turns out. Its 7E right so everyone needs flyers? <br />
<br />
<b>Heavy Support</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
Hmmm, not much going on here. A dev squad with three plasma cannons is about it really. These guys are actually pretty mediocre. They usually scatter or blow up in their own faces before they are really effective. Still fun when you blast a terminator squad away in one turn.<br />
<br />

<b>What would I change?</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
So what am I buying next basically. I think more drop pods/rhinos are on the cards. Might try and scratch build some drop pods, screw spending that sort of money on it. A land raider would deffo be helpful for my assault units as I do actually have some assault terminators coming up soon.<br />
<br />
Heavy support needs a look in, need some lascannons in there. Maybe a predator or something although tanks are expensive irl money, even if you hunt around on ebay so we will see what I can get my hands on.<br />
<br />
I have also been toying with the idea of assasins, they seem like good fun and I rarely seem them played. Plus its only one more model! Hooray.<br />
<br />
<br />
That is all from me today, let me know what you guys think of my list.<br />

Cheers guys,<br />

<br />
<br />
Hello All,<br />
<br />
So as so of you may or may not know Callum and I have been running the £25 challenge and loads of people have been getting involved. The idea is to start a Warhammer 40k army and build it to a playable 500 points for just £25. I started off with Dark Eldar and bought a load of 3rd edition warriors but quickly fell out of love with these and turned to my old favorite, space marines.<br />
<br />
Space marines are by far the most popular army that games workshop sell; they are easy to play, easy to paint and the range is massive. Not only do gw sell space marines in many cost effective sets, it also means that places like eBay and other second hand sites are brimming with the little guys, you can pick up an army for a weeks pocket money. I thought I would put together a little guide on how to set up an army cheaply and also give an update to my own £25 challenge.<br />
<br />
<b>Option 1 - The new stuff</b><br />
<br />
So you have £50 in your pocket and want to start an army off the sprues, new out the box. I don't blame you, making the models is half the fun and that shit feels good. Games Workshop currently offer start collecting boxes which rrp at £50 but you can pick up them up for between £35 and £40 from registered retailers. These are awesome ways to start collecting (no pun intended) as each one is a single formation that plays right out of the box, usually with some pretty neat special rules. <br />
<br />
There are however a couple of issues with these boxes. You get no rules, no army list info and they are all multipose stuff. This means you will need to invest £10-£20 in modelling supplies and about £40 in reading material if you are new to 40k. This can be a bit of a downer when only half your money is actually being spent on models. The other issue is that some of the boxes do not expand very well. What I mean by this is that each on is a tailored formation that contains precisely what is in the box. If you start buying more figures you will need to break this formation into another force organisation chart or buy enough models that you have another separate force running along side your initial box; very frustrating.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.games-workshop.com/resources/catalog/product/600x620/99120101153_StartCollectingSpaceMarines02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://www.games-workshop.com/resources/catalog/product/600x620/99120101153_StartCollectingSpaceMarines02.jpg" width="309" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i>Start Collecting, Space marines</i></div>
<br />
<br />
Then there is Dark Vengeance. This is a great box that contains two chunky armies that do not require complex assembly, all the rules that you need to play said armies and all the dice and templates that you will ever need. This is great if you have a friend to split it with, usually this will run you up about £40 each depending on where you get it from and how you split it. If you are not lucky enough to have friends you can pick dark vengeance stuff off ebay for cheap. The armies go for between £25 and £30 as well as the individual units. Even though I have been collecting my army a while I have still used Dark Vengeance marines to bulk up my forces.<br />
<br />
So what is the catch with all this? Well firstly the armies have zero customisation unless you start cutting stuff up. The space marine side is pretty set as dark angels, you can file off the logos on most of the marines but the character models and terminators are a little trickier. The same goes for the chaos, you are very much stuck with a khorne themed force. This is fine if you just want to play but if you really enjoy the modelling side of things this can be a bit of a dull introduction to 40k and you will be left with an army identical to hundreds of other plays. 40k has a lot of role play elements and for many people most of the fun comes from making your army that looks exactly how you want it to look and play exactly how you want it to play. This is something the start collecting boxes <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i>Dark Vengeance, top dollar</i></div>
<br />
<br />
<b>Option 2 - The old Stuff</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
So you still have that £50 but you want more. You want to start playing with 750-1000 points straight off the bat. Off to eBay with ya, this is where the juicy stuff starts. If you have a bit of time, patience and thrift you can do wonders with second hand models. Again, this is very dependant on what force you want to start as some races just simply are not as popular and therefore you will find it much harder to pick stuff up on the cheap. Space marines are by far the cheapest, orks, necrons and chaos are pretty easy too. <br />
<br />
The key to eBay modelling is weighing up how much you want to spend and how long you want to spend restoring old models. Plenty off decently painted/base coated models go for cheap on ebay and if you are allergic to modelling and painting this is a fine way to start wargaming. The best way however is to find those job lot auctions of terribly painted models that look like they have been put together by monkeys.<br />
<br />
I managed to pick up 20 tactical marines for just under £10 from two seperate listings. There were all painting pretty terribly, lots were wonky and they all came on 25mm bases.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0227.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0227.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But who wants shit looking models? You could always just paint over the models if you just want a coherent force however the best way to make these guys looking like new is grabbing some Dettol (other products do work but I find dettol is the best). This will strip all the paint off the models and not effect the plastic. I will hopefully be putting a tutorial up over the weekend to show you guys the best way to do this. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I had these guys stripped, rebased and repainted within a day and they are now looking pretty damn fine. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
That is £10 and a few hours work for £20 space marines. The average Joe troop choice such as tactical marines are always the cheapest models to pick up but with some hunting and patience you can get almost anything off eBay. For my £25 challenge I have picked up some of the dark vengeance character models for £3 and am currently looking for a Dreadnought (these come up cheap as the old Dark Vengeance equivilent, Assault on Black reach, had a Dreadnought). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A few points to note on thrifting your way through the hobby is extra costs. In truth, those marines probably cost nearer £15. This is because you have to think about the cost of the Dettol, the cost of the bases and even the cost of all the bloody loo roll I used to clean my bathroom after. If you have everything setup and you have all the paints, this is deffo the cheap way to go about starting or expanding an army, however, if you are completely new to the hobby I still think it is best to go with some of the newer boxes from gw. After all, who doesn't love a bit of plastic crack, that shit smells gooood.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hope some of you found this helpful. I will put a proper dettol tutorial out this weekend and hope to have a proper update out soon.</div>

<br />
<br />
Hello All,<br />
<br />
So something I realised when starting this blog is that I do not really have that much time for hobbying lately. Due to university, sport and girlfriend commitments I only really have a few hours spare on my own for modelling. This has made me very conscious of how quickly I paint models and how to start painting efficiently. Today I sat down to paint a few "reinforcements" for my crimson fists; two sergeants, two heavy weapon dudes and a tactical marine that must have got left out somewhere on the way. As this was probably the most diverse my painting sessions get I thought I would share with you guys just how I paint my models and how I make sure I can rack out decent looking chaps in not much time.<br />
<br />
<u>Base Coats</u><br />
<u><br /></u>
So the key to success with space marines is getting the base coats done fast. The first colour does not need to be neat nor does it need to be particularly even if you are going for a weathered look. I had my 5 guys based in blue within 5 minutes. I use a shit brush and just go to town, just make sure you never lay anything on too thick.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0201.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0201.jpg" height="400" width="225" /></a><a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0199.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0199.jpg" height="400" width="225" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As you can see, the brushes I use are not exactly special. Besides, they don't need to be!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0202.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0202.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As you can see they are not very neat but all the blue is down where it needs to be. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I chose to do my silver next, this completely depends on what chapter you are painting but a big thing I have learnt is getting the paint order right. Silver covers the next largest area, anything that the silver slips onto will most likely be red.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0204.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0204.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was a bit more careful with the red and silver as the aim of the game is to complete the base coats without having to go back to another colour. Being careful takes up much less time then rushing it and having to correct later.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After this I just went over the model and corrected anything I screw up and picking out details such as scrolls, cables and the green for the plasma guns.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0207.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0207.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<u>Washes</u></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After this stage it was on to the wash. I dont use GW washes as I like to control how thick the wash is in certain areas. I use an old pot of Scortched Brown and mix this with water on a palet and just wash the whole model. I try and put it down thicker on the feet and then have a bit lighter on the top. I love using this wash, I think it really dirties the model up. Alternatively, if you wanter a cleaner look, I just use black for some of my other models.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0208.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0208.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<u>Highlights</u></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once this is dried the models look a bit turdy and dull. Time to do some highlighting. I use a fairly watery Ultramarine blue for my highlight colour, usually one brush load will do the whole model. A good tip is to break the highlight line here and there, this enhances the weathering later on. I also highlighted the khorne red with wazdakka at this point. Any highlighting that goes wrong, dont try and go back over it in your base coat, just smudge it with your finger. This will usually just leave a bit of paint on the edge you were highlighting and spread the rest of the paint out. These are the only highlights I do, the weapons are just left alone.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0209.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0209.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0211.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0211.jpg" height="320" width="180" /></a><a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0213.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0213.jpg" height="320" width="180" /></a><a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0210.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0210.jpg" height="320" width="180" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<u>Weathering</u></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Don't want your chap any more weathered? Stop here, you're done! Want some chips? Keep going, this is where it gets fun afterall. I do this very simply, I grab my shit brush and attack the model very gently with some Tin Bitz. I try and make these relatively small and in a places where it would make sense to have scratches e.g. shoulder and knee pads. Again, if you make these marks too big or in the wrong places, just smudge it with your finger and life will sort itself out.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0215.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0215.jpg" height="320" width="180" /></a><a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0216.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0216.jpg" height="320" width="180" /></a><a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0214.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0214.jpg" height="320" width="180" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once this is done I just use my detail brush and apply some boltgun metal to the top/bottom of the scratches. I also add a few "fresh" scratched with just the boltgun, don't go too wild with that though otherwise it looks a bit crap.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0220.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0220.jpg" height="320" width="180" /></a><a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0219.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0219.jpg" height="320" width="180" /></a><a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0217.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0217.jpg" height="320" width="180" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hey presto, battle damage. Although it's a simple process this did take a while to get it right. The size, placement and distribution of the "random" scratches really does matter.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Another detail to note on before we base these bastards is the plasma guns. I havn't touched them since the basecoat and used to just leave them as is, maybe go over them again in snot green. Recently I have dug out an old sunburst yellow which has separated a fair bit. I use the watery paint on top to just glaze over the green. This really makes it glow, bonus points for running over onto the metal for a bit more glowy glow.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0222.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0222.jpg" height="640" width="360" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then it is on to basing. I leave this to last now as I like to dry brush some of the codex gray onto the feet of the model. More weathering goodness. Then it just sticking down some flock and you're sorted. I wish I had done a more adventurous basing technique when I started my army. Unfortunately its just too much effort to re base nearly 50 figures.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0224.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0224.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now all my dark vengeance grunts have some proper lads to lead them rather than some blokes in dresses.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These guys took me about 2 hours to paint, the documentation probably took some time out of that and the fact that there were a few other details such as the plasma guns and heavy weapons. Adding another five models to the mix would not add that much time on meaning I can usually get a tactical squad done in an afternoon. Good news when you only really have an afternoon of painting a week!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This has been a good leaning curve for me. I have gone from a kid with loads of time and no models to an adult with not much time and loads of models. Not only has the quality of my painting actually got better, but now I do it quicker! Result. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<u>Other updates</u></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So what else have I been up to? I sent my 3D printer off to hopefully get repaired/replaced as apparently they shipped me a broken one. Nice. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hobbying wise, these are the only four models I have painted this week. The £25 challenge has shifted from dark eldar to space marines. A bit of a cop out I know but I really was not getting along with the dark eldar figures and it gives me an excuse to make moar crimsons fists. I actually managed to get 20 tactical marines for just over £10 off ebay. These guys will need to be stripped and rebased but hopefully they should fit in with everything else once painted up. My HQ will be the Dark Vengeance captain dude which I will convert a bit, picked him up for £2. That leaves me with about £15 to spend, probably on something armored! Thinking dreadnought... watch this space.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
That's all this time guys!</div>

<br />
Been working on a few projects this week and lets just say there has been alot of stress involved in said projects. So let's start with the fun stuff; chaos!<br />
<br />
I have finally painted up some standard marines, only five but its enough to try and get some more models on the table. Happy with how they turned out, didnt do anything really fancy with these guys. I found that when I was painting the dark vengeance chaos marines that there was just so much detail there was no need for lots of highlighting, you can get great results just by picking out the detail and washing it. However, these regular marines were a bit of a shock to the system and may require a bit of highlighting now I think about it. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0158.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0158.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0157.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0157.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The next bit of chaos kit to get lashed with some paint was the hellbrute. I have been putting this guy off for a while as I just did not know how to go about tackling the large amount of flesh on his body. I actually ended up just using Zandri dust and putting down a heavy Khorne red wash onto this. This came out bloody fantastic and far better then I could have imagined. The rest of the model was painted as normal and then the whole thing was washed with Scorched Brown. Again, there was loads of detail to pick out with this model which leads to a relatively easy paint as long as you can get the back right. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You may notice he has lost his melta gun. I am not sure when/why I put autocannons on him but it looks pretty badass I guess and who doesn't love a good reaper autocannon.</div>

Next up it some imperial guard. I enjoyed painting up the EM4 figures and I guess a small part of me has longed for some foot slogging grunts ever since. So I got together some of my old guard collection and had some repainting fun. I have about 15/20 guys that I could salvage at the moment so might grab a chimera and have myself a melta fun bus. Although I doubt I could resist some of the big tanks if I started up with guard. Vroom Vroom!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I thought the reloading pose was a nice touch, something I must have done years ago but I thought it was quite fun. As you can see I have painted these guys in the same scheme as the EM4 lot. Hopefully this means any characters/vehicles I get can be used for both.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Speaking of special characters I had a bit of fun and built this guy up, he is called Quentin. Quentin doesn't know what he is; commisar? commander? vet. sergeant? Quentin does know however that he has a pretty swanky boltgun and some very protective armour.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Matchy matchy! These guys all seem to fit in quite nicely together. Not sure I should go mixing cadians with the EM4 lot as the proportions are a little out but I hope to use Quentin both in 40k and Callum's up and coming skirmish game. Good Quentin.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So Harry, this all seems very swell, what have you been getting stressed about? Well, notice the title says 3D printing? Yes, thats what.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I decided to get myself a small 3D printer to help me out with uni work, cycling equipment and hobby stuff. I have used 3D printers with my course and always wanted to print of various pieces of terrain/weapons and even vehicles (so many possibilities). Unfortunatly the printers at uni are often booked up and it is not fair to take up a whole day on a piece of educational equipment printing a baneblade (so I have been told anyway). So I bought myself a Fabrikator Mini from Hobbyking. It only cost me about £140 with import charges, prints PLA with a resolution of up to 0.1mm in a build space of 80x80x80mm. Not bad... if only I could get it to fucking work!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My computer has struck again and over the past week I have given myself a crash course on everything to do with drivers, FTDI chips and crying into my pillow. Its not the printers fault, it just appears to be my shitty computer with all its 10 shitty windows. Hey ho, it will work.... one day,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<i>"the most expensive paper weight"</i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
That is all from me this week, hopefully I can start getting some things out a bit faster and get my 3D printer up and running. </div>

<br />
So its been a bit slow lately what with my terrain project coming along (I promise a blog post soon!). I have been working on my chaos today finished off 10 more cultists and the lord. Pretty happy with how these turned out!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0125.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0125.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0126.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0126.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As you can see they were painted pretty quickly, managed to polish these guys off in one hour. Hopefully this means I can add lots and lots of the little bastards without too much effort. I did however make the effort to include a few weapon swaps just to spice things up a bit.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0129.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0129.jpg" height="400" width="225" /></a><a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0128.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0128.jpg" height="400" width="225" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Gave the lord a bolt pistol a while back when I first got the kit as I never paid the points for the plasma pistol. Took a bit more care over this guys, love the model, lots of detail in there. Didn't try anything too swanky with his sword as I feel the detail speaks for itself.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This means my chaos is now playable in a fully painted form. Going to try and get my 10 "tactical" marines done and the hellbrute. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also purchased some space marine legs to make an extra five guys from the spare torsos in the assault marine box. I decided to make some prettier sergeants to compliment my dark vengeance tacs and also have a few heavy weapon guys that can be thrown into my lists. I like the fact I now have a few different heavy and special weapon guys that don't necessarily belong to a set squad. This means I can pick and mix who goes where whenever I write my lists, spot on!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0131.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0131.jpg" height="400" width="225" /></a><a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0130.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0130.jpg" height="400" width="225" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
That's about it for now, hope you guys are not too unimpressed with my progress. Going to try and get some more chaos done soon and then it will be back to the focus on the crimson fists. Might finish off some em4 too!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Cheap plastic crack time!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
Hello All!<br />
<br />
Yet again I have been busy lately so not been able to move ahead much with my other projects. So what have I gone and done? Started another one!<br />
<br />
For those of you that dont know, <a href="http://www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/Science_Fiction.html" target="_blank">EM4 miniatures</a> do a fantastic bunch of cheap plastic kits. They do some great metal chaps too and have everything from fantasy to sci fi, all at cracking prices. I decided to get a bunch of figures to hopefully use in an upcoming project (shhh!) that will be set in the near future. I grabbed one set of gangers, two sets of troopers and some spacecraft to boot. This came in at about £14 including shipping which I thought was pretty decent considering my order arrived within 48 hours!<br />
<br />
<u>Gangers</u><br />
<br />
So lets start with the gang bang crew first. The figures are actually quite nicely sculpted considering the price. There are a few areas where the detail is lost but overall the quality was really quite good. I actually did a bit of swapping between these guys and the troopers. This was all well and good swapping ganger arms to the troopers however it didn't work as well the other way. The rod that connects the arms together is significantly larger for the troopers so bear this in mind! I had to cut it out and glue the arms on separately. I also swapped one of gangers packs for a trooper radio pack, the greedy buggers wanted one between five. I also gave one an imperial guard chainsword, the proportions are about the same and it worked very nicely!<br />
<br />
For all these EM4 guys I am going to try and do a more urban base. This basically consisted of bits of cardboard and sprue stuck down on the base with a little bit of sand. Unfortunately these guys dont fill up the whole slot on these bases. I could not be arsed to sort that out and don't think it looks too bad. Perfectionists welcome.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0074.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0074.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<u>Troopers</u></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next up are my favorites. The troopers! These guys went together exactly the same as the gangers, the torsos and packs can be swapped with ease (I wasn't feeling that cheeky however). The quality standard of these guys is pretty much on par with gangers but they have a little more detail loss in my opinion, especially around their weapons. One of these guys got a ganger weapon, will be subbing this as some sort of special weapon perhaps. The sergeant got a pair of imperial guard arms and looks rather fetching. I managed to get five of these guys painted tonight and am very happy with how they look. I tried to go for more of a 80's sci fi feel with bolder colors and a less dirty shade. The hazard stripes on the chain sword are a personal triumph of mine. The bases came out looking ok, perhaps a bit flat but hey ho. Hope to add some squad markings too, finally ordered some decal softener!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0073.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0073.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0075.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0075.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0079.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0079.jpg" height="320" width="180" /></a><a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0078.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0078.jpg" height="320" width="180" /></a><a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0077.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0077.jpg" height="320" width="180" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hopefully more of this good stuff to follow! May have to get them some sort of APC too, will have to look around for that. Thought it would a nice idea to throw in a size comparison for you guys. Bear in mind that all the bases are the same height.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0082.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0082.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As you can see they would fit in fine with the 40k universe. They fit much better alongside marines in opinion, make them actually look taller than humans! I built these guys up so I could use them as a guard squad but I hope to be using them mostly for combat zone type skirmish games.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

This was more of a "fuck it" purchase and with each set of miniatures being priced at £2.55 it is very very easy to do this. I call this the Primark effect, I found it very easy to load up my basket with £40 worth of the stuff. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am glad I did because these little space ships are an absolute joy, each one is in a different style so its not like you get a few set "races" in here. They can be roughly grouped together and would almost certainly be coherent if you painted them up the same, I hope to split into 3/4 different factions. I managed to paint one up just out of interest and I was very pleased. They have plenty of detail on them and the castings are really very nice. Again, going to go for quite a bold cheesy sci-fi theme on these, I have had enough grim dark with all my Crimson Fists!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0081.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0081.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Thats all the swag that I bought however there are a few other cool kits from EM4. The space rangers look like good marine alternatives and the Mechs look like a lot of fun! For £2.55 for each set of 5 men/mechs/marines or 12 spaceships I dont think you can find better value for money out there. They also do a few metal bits to customise your troopers and gangers but they seem to be eternally out of stick. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/space-rangers2.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/space-rangers2.gif" height="320" width="169" /></a><a href="http://www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/robots2.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/robots2.gif" height="320" width="169" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
EM4 gets a +1 from me, I will certainly be getting some more! Now wouldn't the Mechs make for some great heavy infantry?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<u>Other updates</u></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Everything else has been going a bit slower due to uni commitments and my upcoming terrain project. I have got the last of the chaos built up after my latest shipment of 30mm bases so want to start focusing on them soon. Have a few honour guard and devastators to paint for my crimson fists but might take a rest from all that blue!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Got some interesting tactic videos coming up on the channel within the next week. We have been using <a href="http://vassal40k.tripod.com/" target="_blank">Vassal</a> to try out some cool tactics and aim to share this with you all. Vassal is a free to use platform that allows you to place "models" on a customisable board and effectively have full 40k battles without buying a thing. Try before you buy comes to mind! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So I hope to start making some terrain very very soon. This will be 4mm MDF scenery laser cut out and slotted together, the emphasis being no glue is required and the models can be flat packed back down for storage/transport. This will be slow to start but after I have a few prototypes I hope to start selling so watch out for some super affordable super easy terrain popping up on here!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I plan to make a wide range of multistoried ruins, buildings, factories etc. as well as some line of sight blocking stuff and some *cough* totally-not-40k-equivalent stuff *cough* stuff. I already have designs for:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- One, two and three story 90 degree ruin pieces. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- Los blocking buildings.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- skyshield landing "platform"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- aegis defence "fortification"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
- imperial "fortified tower"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If there is anything else you guys think I should be focussing on let me know. If there is anything specific you want me to make email over a sketch/dimensions and I might be able to sort something out!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jWYmIZ7wT_Y/VrPDc32_mSI/AAAAAAAAAK0/Ksxik27CNtk/s1600/Render%2Bbuilding%2B1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="364" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jWYmIZ7wT_Y/VrPDc32_mSI/AAAAAAAAAK0/Ksxik27CNtk/s640/Render%2Bbuilding%2B1.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So that was a pretty big update eh? More posts to follow soon on each of my individual projects and watch this space for terrain updates! </div>

<br />
Had a a pretty busy weekend so been a little busy. So, feeling a little down with myself seeing as I have had to start doing things I strolled into Games Workshop and picked up an assault squad. Did I really need one? Not really...<br />
<br />
So here they are! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0062.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0062.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0063.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0063.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am pretty proud of these bad boys, I am in love with this kit. Really nice poses, cool bases and plenty of bits to finish of the rest of the honor guard. Sarg. appears to have taken a trip Isstvan III with his metal detector and picked himself up a nice vintage helmet! Bonza. He also happens to be a veteran with a very nice power sword, bonus! The rest of the lads are just armed with Dorn's knife and fork. I guess the idea behind these guys it to jump in and take out smaller, vulnerable units. Not too many points but good fun!.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Second thing is that Pedro Bantor is finally finished. I wasn't too inspired with this one so I guess the paintjob is a tad bland. Will be getting the chapter symbol up there on the banner soon do not fear!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/52f49f53-140a-4910-acc7-704cb04dadee.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/52f49f53-140a-4910-acc7-704cb04dadee.jpg" height="640" width="530" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So there we go chaps, thats all from the crimson fists for now. Running out of things to paint. Got some devastators coming up and the rest of the Honour guard should be finished soon. Then its on to try and get some real anti tank and some transport for Kantor and his guard... if only there was a model that could do both?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Cheeky full army shot ft. my bed</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0070.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0070.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In other news, I have ordered a few things from <a href="http://www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/Science_Fiction.html" target="_blank">em4 miniatures</a>. These guys produce some dirt cheap plastics and I thought it would be nice to get some and have a look. So watch this space for some Troopers and Gangers! I also got some of the spaceships, might be big enough to play with the xwing rules. They might be good, they might be shit, but they are damn cheap. More meat for the grinder!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Thanks again for reading guys,</div>

<br />
Its time for me to show you happy lot my chaos. When you have half of dark vengeance sitting there its only going to be a matter of time before you start painting. What with the new chaos codex on the horizons I thought I would get the station early and wait patiently for the band wagon to arrive.<br />
What choas god have I succumb to? Nurgle of course. Mostly inspired by my own current lifestyle and room arrangement I thought Nurgle would be a fun route to take for my super friendly warband.<br />
<br />
So here they are, looking very spooky<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0058_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0058_2.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0059.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0059.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Such a friendly warband this chap got a nice pirate hat because everyone loves pirates. All I have painting for now but will hopefully get some more done at a later date.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Meanwhile, outside of the dark vengeance club, a new band of nurglings have spawned. Nothing like getting on the band wagon before anyone really knows what its going to be. Rumor has is it the nurgle will have very nasty flamers and missile launchers, so that's what these bastards are getting.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0061.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0061.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There we have it, my little warband. Bit of a slow burner this one but thought I would let you guys know what else I have been up to. Let me know what you think!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Thanks for reading - Harry</div>

<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0037.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0037.jpg" height="640" width="360" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Hello all,<br />
<br />
Been busy today and go the storm talon done. Very chuffed. Lots of new challenges that I had a shot at and it seems to have come out quite well!<br />
<br />
I had great fun painting this guy, even if it did take a very long time to do so. The battle chips are painted the same way as all my models but I tried to be a little less zealous this time over. I even attempted smudging them with my thumb to create a bit of movement. No that really is flyer weathering. Also put a bit of codex gray and abaddon black dry brushing here and there. A bit more shading was added with a scorched brown wash in all the recesses, made it look a little more grubby and really brought out the paneling. So get ready for lots of pics!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0040_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0040_1.jpg" height="400" width="225" /></a><a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0039_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0039_2.jpg" height="400" width="225" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
That is deffo some <span style="background-color: #eeeeee; font-family: "georgia" , "utopia" , "palatino linotype" , "palatino" , serif; font-size: 14.85px; line-height: 20.79px;">flyer-weathering® right there. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: #eeeeee; font-family: "georgia" , "utopia" , "palatino linotype" , "palatino" , serif; font-size: 14.85px; line-height: 20.79px;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="background-color: #eeeeee; font-family: "georgia" , "utopia" , "palatino linotype" , "palatino" , serif; font-size: 14.85px; line-height: 20.79px;">The next challenge was doing the canopy. I actually turned out masking off each individual window so that I could spray the piece black then paint as normal. Balling.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0029_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0029_2.jpg" height="320" width="180" /></a><a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0031_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0031_2.jpg" height="320" width="180" /></a><a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0030.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><br /></a> <a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0030.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0030.jpg" height="320" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This gave a nice, crystal clear window for my pilot to look out of. Mixed up a dark red for him as I still wanted his crimson fists to be distinguishable, no weathering on this chap as he is nice and safe inside his cabin. Still undecided whether or not to glue the canopy down yet or just have it loose. Big decisions.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0033.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0033.jpg" height="225" width="400" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The base came out especially nicely, matches the bases on my standard grunts quite well too. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

All in all pretty darn happy with how this beauty came out. The rockets/lascannons still pop on and off quite nicely but I am yet to paint up the skyhammer pods or lascannons. Another job for another day! Maybe Pedro Kantor can help with that.</div>

<br />
Hello All!<br />
<br />
It has arrived! I have no idea why I am so excited about its arrival, maybe because its my first ever flyer or maybe because I waited so damn long for it to arrive. Never the less I couldn't have been happier when I opened the door this morning. If you see Tony the dhl delivery man driving around Derby, please congratulate him.<br />
<br />
Less about Tony, more about the bumblebee. I went to buy a landspeeder and now I have this adorable little talon of death. I have always liked the ideas of flyers in 40k, the image of all manner of ships battling it out above a massed infantry battle is, for me, the epitome of the gimdark. This should hopefully bring me some much needed maneuverability and flyer defense. <br />
<br />
I decided to keep the weapons unattached to the model so I can just swap them out depending on the list I am playing. They seem to just snap on and off and hold themselves in place with no magnet magic or bluetac. The base was good fun too, managed to squeeze some odds and sods of terrain in there to hopefully spruce the model up a bit.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
Hello All,<br />
<br />
So if you don't know by now head over to our youtube channel and have a peek at the £25 challenge we are running. Callum is pretty much done, the bastard picked necrons and now has a pretty solid force. Me? I chose dark eldar. Yep thats right, an army that is very hard to play, very hard to form low point lists and very vehicle/speed dependent. Sounds cheap to me! So what have I picked up? I managed to get hold of 19 unbuilt warriors for £10.50. Not bad not bad, but not great but it should give me a bit more flexibility with conversions, making Archons etc. I am hoping now to pick up a raider (or two if i get lucky) and form a list from there, idea being as follows:<br />
<br />
<u>HQ</u><br />
<u><br /></u>
An Archon with deepstrike wizardry and fancy weapons. Hopefully this should make up for the lack of mobility I will have when I fail to get more raiders.<br />
<br />
<u>Elites</u><br />
<br />
Trueborn with blasters? Might be good against necrons but who knows. Fills up some points too, bonus.<br />
<br />
<u>Troops</u><br />
<u><br /></u>
Some kabalite warriors with maybe more blasters, I think I will leave splinter cannons alone unless they are mounted in a raider.<br />
<br />
Maybe convert the warriors in some wyches? The older models come with a fair few cc weapons and I am sure I could rustle something up. Not sure how effective these would be against undead robots in close combat. The Hekatrix with a power weapon could be sneaky.<br />
<br />
And that comes to exactly 500pts, marvelous.<br />
<br />
So its either that or get more kabalites and go for horde dark eldar... which I am sure works very well.<br />
<br />
The older models which I picked up are actually pretty neat, big fan. Not a fan of how much smaller and weaker they are compared to necron warriors however. This could be interesting.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0052_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0052_2.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To summarise? What have I done, please send help.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br />
So after clearing my desk of empty packets, dirty pots, general shit and something that looks vaguely like coursework I finally have some actual content. That's right, its time for the crimson fists.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/warhammer40k/images/f/f3/CM_Pedro_Kantor_Rynn's_World.png/revision/latest?cb=20130913205719" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/warhammer40k/images/f/f3/CM_Pedro_Kantor_Rynn's_World.png/revision/latest?cb=20130913205719" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So these chaps were my first real space marine army and subsequently have a soft spot in my heart. Maybe its because I like blue, maybe its because I like red or maybe its because I hate orks? Who knows, who cares, they're the power armoured, bolter loving bastard sons of Dorn that we all know and love.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I will start with what I actually have painted up which currently includes the dark angels from dark vengeance (ft. hobby knife) and some tactical marines come sternguard.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Tacticals</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
How cute, a nice little squad of ten bolter armed marines with their very own rhino! Look, one of them even brought a plasma gun with him, adorable. The rhino is a very new addition, technically still drying as this goes out. Bonus? I actually bought a razorback (sneaky sneaky).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now I really must apologise for my photography skills. I bought a new phone and thought it would do all the work for me but it really bloody doesn't. So enjoy these flashy images with highly distorted colours and generally awful composition. The models are much darker in person and the battle damage really comes out, unfortunately in these photos they look like they are from candyland.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0034.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0034.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0031.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0031.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Sternguard</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So these guys came about when I bought a tac squad and sternguard box. I found (carefully calculated) that there were enough bolters and combi weapons to make a full 10 man squad of sternguard without their poncy flannels dragging about. So here they are.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0035.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0035.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0038.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0038.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Said Poncy flannels</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then, rather craftily, I made the 5 remaining sternguard into honor guard complete with grey knight weapons. The plan was to give them the chapter standard with Pedro attached for many many attacks. However, the issue lies in actually getting these guys into combat. Note that I haven't painted many... that is because I have no real use for them in such a small force.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0040.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0040.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Terminators</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Ah yes, everyone loves this big metal bastards. I love them so much I squeezed a cheeky 6th one in there. Just the bog standard dark vengeance guys with a bit of de-dark angel work going on. The 6th guy is actually a terminator that came free with white dwarf many moons ago when they dropped assault on black reach. Winning.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0039.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0039.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Surprise Chaplain</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So obviously the big K is it bit too costly in smaller games so I had to have some sort of low point HQ. Like the dark vengeance sergeant model but feel he has his head up his arse? Like a massive power maul with a fancy name? Love power helmets that are also skulls? Here, have all those things! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0043.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0043.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Quite proud of this chap, please don't pick on his wonky skull face.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So thats all my painted stuff however there is a fair bit more going on under the dust sheets. I bought another set of dark vengeance tac marines for eight pound bloody fifty and sought making a dev squad out of it. That gave me three plasma cannons and another five man tac squad to join my other dumplings with the rhino. Pedro Kantor was also born from the mighty sternguard box, more of a proxy until I pull my thumb out and buy the model. Oh and apparently I have some scouts but I cannot find them. Oops.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0041.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0041.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0045.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0045.jpg" height="358" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0044.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd401/thegiantpeanut/Crimson%20fists/DSC_0044.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is Pedro Bantor himself. Well, sort of. I will paint him when I get the balls/skill to do him justice.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So thats it, thats my Crimson Fist army sans a five man scout squad. Will put up a written list sooner or later with a bit more tactical though. Hoping to expand into the realms of detachments/formations and end up with a Gladius strike force with the first company detachment thing. Then we need a land raider for Pedro and the lads to go bash some heads. But those are distant dreams, for now watch this space, there is a storm coming.</div>

<br />
As you may have noticed this blog has changed a little, and no, I am not talking about the smell of decay and peeling paint from over 5 months inactivity. In fact we have decided to give the page a bit of a spruce up and to do that Callum has employed me, Harry, to have a blast at this blogging malarkey. Now the pay isn't great and the banter could be better but I hope to be writing a few things here a week. Who knows what I will write about but I suspect I will start with sharing my hobby history and showing you guys my personal projects.<br />
<br />
I didn't have much of a collection coming into 2015, nothing I could really call an army; a few bedraggled guardsmen, a couple of crimson fists that had been painted far too many times and some funky grots I couldn't bare to part with. Everything else had been sold when I left for uni. Fully armed, fully painted, glistening armies of the Imperium all turned into hangovers, late night Mcdonalds and the rent of a tiny room on campus.<br />
<br />
When Callum and I started getting more interested in 40k again my first venture back was that of a hodge podge guard force made up from some bolt action ww2 soviets. These were great fun and made an appearance in a battle report we videoed over the Christmas period. I have since moved on to bigger and better power armored things but I hope to continue this project soon (watch this space).<br />
<br />
Then came the crimson fists. After getting my hands on some dark vengeance marines I set about building up some comrades for Kantor. This has grown quite substantially over the past 4 months to about 2000 points and nearly a full Gladius Strike force. You will have seen some of these chaps in the short battle report we filmed back over Christmas in which the proud sons of Dorn did not fare so well. Hey ho, I guess I really really need a flyer, or maybe a rhino. More updates coming soon on the very topic of big metal things.<br />
<br />
Other projects I have running is a small chaos nurgle warband which currently consists of the dark vengeance chaos side. Hopefully this will be featuring in our Kill Team campaign when I actually get round to doing some painting. I thought this would also be quite interesting given the new codex being released soon (I hope!).<br />
<br />
Other than that I might try patching up my imperial guard and I of course have 500 points of dark eldar to summon with £25 which should be an absolute blast.<br />
<br />
This is what I will be writing about over the coming weeks and hopefully you guys will enjoy me sharing my triumphs and failures in my quest through the 41st Millennium. After all, its just a bit of fun.<br />
<br />

Over the past year or so the popularity of these has seem to
have gone through the roof. As I am far more interested in "Fluff"
than I am the competitive side of wargaming this is something that has
certainly always interested me. With that in mind I have been brainstorming
some ideas for scenarios, character profiles and game logistics with the view
to doing one by the end of the year or at the beginning of the next year,
provided I have the models and an opponent for the games.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
As for the Armies involved, obviously I can't collect every
army and nor do I know the army of the person who I will be playing with for
this campaign, however I am hoping to have my Space Marines up above 2000
points and am hoping to have a cool "Millatarum Tempestus" styled
army done by then too. Though for this I will converting "Catachan"
and changing up the rules a bit just to make it more fluffy. I may also have a small Eldar force together by then too. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
With all this in mind creating a scenario is hard. Other
than the obvious "Planet Invasion" styled thing I have been thinking
hard for alternative ideas. Of course if you have any ideas too it would be
great for you to input them for me. At the moment I have one which involves my
Catachan Commandos being tried for Heresy and they, alongside the Carcharian
Crimsons, fight off waves of Imperium Armies and try to prove that they are true
to the Emperor.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
In terms of editing characters profiles I have constructed
the following tables.</div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I just thought I'd share some of the things that will hopefully be happening for Table Top Banter over the coming months and towards the end of the year, got to say I'm excited about a couple of things on my shopping list and future content plans. I hope you can get excited too!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
1. Battle Reports</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I actually managed to get a few responses from you guys when it came to me calling for your help in filming battle reports for 40k. This was really encouraging and I'm hoping that by making some that'll spawn a response again for applications to come and play and I'd really like that. So hopefully in the next 6 weeks or so there will be a BatRep on the youtube channel. As for the future of them that depends on interest from viewers and players alike, though I'm really hoping I can have some online regularly.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
2. Age of Sigmar</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This is one of the more exciting items on the shopping list. Really, I can't wait to paint those beautiful miniatures and hopefully play some games. As this develops I'd obviously be looking into publishing some AoS content too, which is my plan. I really hope this game can start to broaden my range of war games that I can cover. That is the aim behind this game for me, stretch my content over a few more gaming systems, who knows maybe even throw out more content? Wouldn't that be good!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
3. Narrative Campaign</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Yes that's right, I'm currently going over an idea for a narrative campaign. Obviously this is something that's been done by a few other channels but I am hoping to throw in my own ideas to make it something unique to Table Top Banter. Whether this would be open or not is hard to say but possibly not for the first one. Very excited though, already brainstorming my narrative out so keep those eyes peeled folks.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
4. Dark Vengance</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I know that I'm very late to the party here but I really want to get the whole box and paint them up as best I can. This would be for a personal sense of accomplishment as well as giving me more content to produce. Not only this but it would give TTB two 650 point studio armies for those who can't bring everything with them but still fancy a game against me. Think this could also provide help for variation in armies to play against, especially in the smaller games. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
5. Other gaming systems</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Should money and time allow it I'm really looking at getting into other gaming systems a little. Something like Warmachine or Hordes, or perhaps Mordheim. That has been something I really like the idea of, with the creating warbands and gaining experience and so forth. So hoping to find more game systems to expand into to give you guys something else to read and watch too.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Well thanks for reading this list of objective I suppose. There are certainly a few things I'm excited by here and I can't wait to get stuck in! I's just like to thank you all for following me and reading/watching too. It's the interest you lot show that drives me on to set these slightly more ambitious goals for the next few months, who knows where this can go? Oh and don't forget ... Have fun!</div>

<br />
Let us hold a minutes silence for the Astra Militarum players, the reason? They are so outdated and ,having played a few games against them, a disappointment. That's right, my friend Harry and I have been playing a lot of games lately to break in the new table and scenery that I'll be using in some of the battle reports that you guys are welcome to come take part in. After playing these games we quickly realised that the newer codex's, namely the Space Marine one that I played, are brutal against guard.<br />
<br />
Over the space of a few days we played 8 or so games, no two of my lists for Space Marines were the same and yet the result came back conclusive, 8-0 to the Marines. I toned my list down a bit, scout snipers and rhino's were everywhere to begin with and this is arguably the weaker way to play SM but I still won. I then played one game where I went full on. Most of these games were 750, 2 1000 points games as well. The full on 1000 point list was Combined arms and the Librarius Conclave. After two turns all that was left was half of a Command Squad, a Leman Russ and a Sentinel. Casting powers on a 2+ was crazy and then I had 5 Assault Terminators, 2 5 man squads which were bare bones, one devastator squad and finally drop pod Sternguard.<br />
<br />
Since when were Astra Militarum this bad? Harry's list wasn't even that bad! I thought it would be a close match up but I was so so wrong. It reached the point where we decided to stop playing as there was no way he could win, we'd exhausted all of our reasonable options. So what was going wrong? Well, I think I've found the problem. Money. GW are a business so it's in their best interest to maximise profits, I get that, I study economics. But this does mean that with codex updates being more strong that the last, there comes an increase in demand for that race. As each one becomes better than the last it forces those who want a good game to buy the updated race or new power units. I mean neither of us are competitive but losing 8 on the trot is not fun for anyone.<br />
<br />
This post therefore is a recognition of these older codex players and a chance to remember our friends and foes less fortunate, who did not receive the big 7th Edition update our army just had. What does this mean for me though? Nothing really, I'll just collect what I want. I'm not interested in power gaming, all I look for in a model is something cool fun to paint and fun to play with. Hence why I'm looking into more and more army ideas all the time. Obviously Eldar, my next project, aren't exactly bad but what lay ahead in the future is a mystery and will only be found by seeing how awesome the miniatures are.<br />
<br />
So yeah, let us keep in mind these poor old codex's and give them a little love ourselves with our toned down lists and warmest condolences.<br />
<br />

<br />
For those of you who didn't immediately read that title as an innuendo, I congratulate you, as for the rest of us, it can't be helped, I know. Now you might be wondering what this blog post is all about and why it's taken me so long to get to the point, good question, the answer? Game size.<br />
<br />
Playing at the University wargaming society I got a distinct feeling that the minimum kind of sized game people want to be playing is 1500 points. I thought to myself if this was a good or bad thing more recently. When I look at a bigger game I think "that's so cool" when all the miniatures are painted up and ducking behind terrain or charging into combat. But the problem is people aren't painting mini's any more apparently, so 1500 points starts to look very grey. So is it more fun? well I guess it can be but it takes a lot longer than smaller games for obvious reasons, Sometimes it can seem that games that last too long become more dull, especially if it becomes a slaughterfest. That being said, if you have the time and energy and most importantly the painted models, 1500 points is great, upwards of this is probably similar, I know that 1850 and 2000 are two other values often played, but what about smaller games?<br />
<br />
Well games of 1000 points or less seem to slip under the radar. Arguably just as fun, cheaper and easier to have everything painted for I'm baffled as to why it's not more popular. I suppose you get to use more of your collection in bigger games but if it's unpainted does it feel the same, simply? No, it doesn't. I completely understand you should take your time and build up your collection in your own time, it's your hobby and you shouldn't let anyone rush you, but this is where smaller points games come in. With less to be assembled and painted it easier to have a complete army, it becomes an incentive. I once stayed up all night before a game at 12 in the afternoon just to paint up my last 250 points, and it was so worth it to see a completed army on the table. Is it terrible to have a few unpainted mini's on the board, no not at all, is it terrible to have an unpainted army on the board, in my opinion, yes, its a travesty. Having played a few 500-750 points games lately to experiment I can tell you now they are just as fun.<br />
<br />
So what did I take away from writing this and looking into this exercise? It's all about balance. Build up to the bigger games when you are more comfortable with your army, or the game if it's your first army and then as you paint more you'll pick up the game and you can then start looking at 1500+ points games. If you are just starting out, look to 500-750 points, I'll probably be doing a blog post on a few low points list ideas for each faction at some point so keep your eyes peeled. Once you've then got the models painted, go to 1000 and then try to crack 1500, that's how I tried it and I'm happy with how much I picked up in the early days that has helped me develop into a more rounded gamer now. I think most importantly though, do what makes you happy, this is only from my experience and is my personal opinion, if you like bigger games with less painted mini's or just bigger games then play them, just make sure that you and your opponent are happy playing to the same size.<br />
<br />
Thanks for reading<br />

Hello Wargamers,</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I have to admit when I first read into the extra detachments
I was a little worried that it would be too powerful and prevent players using
the combined arms detachments to make an interesting list. I will however day
that the positive thing that stood out for me was that GW are making new ways
to play the game instead of Unbound and Combined Arms. Any alternative way to
play the game is great, it stops it becoming stale and allows variance in
lists. Obviously for this to happen each detachment in a codex should be
internally balanced so to allow for plenty of variety in lists on tables. Along
with this it would be fair to say that the "Objective Secured" rule
for armies using Combined Arms cannot be too hideously out gunned by whatever
the in codex detachments can offer as to allow fully customisable lists,
without going down the crazy unbound route.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
A little more research got me to the point of noticing that what you really want is the
"Detachment of Detachments" one. This is more flexible than just
using one and provided there are multiple ways of fielding this it can at least
make numerous lists, so it's not all the same "Be all, end all" list
every time. I do however think that the danger of this is seeing too many of
those same models over and over. As I
write this blog post I should probably point out my focus is a non-competitive
one, I'm really only looking at what's going to be played in games with friends
or club members etc. Obviously some detachments are crazy good for tournaments
but that's not really my thing. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
So in this casual mindset, my verdict on detachments is that
they are good, not great but good. They give you another way to play the game
and that's awesome. Tie this in with scenarios and such and you could play a
lot of games before playing "the same game twice", which as a casual
gamer is important to me. Any maelstrom of war game really provides something
interesting for the two players to face, forego "Objective Secured"
,which definitely makes a difference here, or go for something with stronger
"special abilities". It's a real dilemma faced by gamers that I have
been against and talked to. Obviously however when you go kill points or maybe
eternal war missions there is much less debating and unbound/special detachment
lists will be more common. So yeah, I like them from a non-competitive point of
view and hope that I will have some models to try one out in the near future.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

Many Thanks</div>

<br />
This is a much shorter blog post than usual, if you could really label it as a blog post. I suppose it is more of a plea? Anyway I, Callum, am inviting you to come and play against me. That's right I am looking for volunteers to play against me to film some new battle reports. If you are interested at all please visit the "Contact Us" page on this blog and ping me an email. Here are a few more details below:<br />
<br />
1. I really want to meet the people who power my blog/twitter/youtube account. Without any of you this just wouldn't be a thing, so meeting you would be great fun for me.<br />
<br />
2. Making more content is important. More content leads to more interest and that will help this grow even more, it's just a big cycle. I'm sure that you, the readers, would love to see more Battle Reports and more individuals getting involved.<br />
<br />
3. More armies for everyone. I can only collect so many models and I think everyone, yes both you and I, would love to see more variety in Battle Reports, who doesn't love good looking models?<br />
<br />
Obviously this whole adventure would require you to travel to where I reside in Swansea. More details of that would be given in response to a request. You can bring as many points as you see fit to bring however I know transporting them can be a hassle so for larger games we would need to arrange that all in advance and please bare in mind time constraints. Then I can book you into a mutually agreed date and the gaming can begin.<br />
<br />
The plan for the day would be:<br />
<ul>
<li>Arrive as early as you can (within reason), likely to be 9/10 at the earliest anyway.</li>
<li>Play a 1500 point "Challenge Callum" game</li>
<li>I'll sort out some lunch or something, I'm actually not too bad in the kitchen!</li>
<li>A smaller "Baby Batrep" styled game will be played (500-750 points with a special scenario)</li>
<li>A big thank you, possibly some bits swapping and a warm hearted good bye.</li>
</ul>
<div>
This would take effect as of mid September so please if you need to make the trip try to book time off or have limited availability fear not, email me in advance to set a finite date, I am so excited by this prospect!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Currently have a gaming table under construction with terrain on the way soon, so this would be played on a half decent table too.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Can't wait to hear from you all.</div>
<div>

<br />
It's been about 6 weeks since I started this blog/youtube channel up and I have to say it excites me to see such a great response already, so thanks! It would be fair to say that this first month or so has been a huge learning curve for me already and I've only managed to squeeze in 4 games of 40k so far. So here are a few things I've learnt and hopefully those of you who are new to the game can get a leg up from this post and those who aren't can look back to their first month or so and compare.<br />
<br />
1. There are two types of wargamers:<br />
<br />
This one is painfully obvious but it's amazed me how clear it is. Now these two types are the player who's sole goal from wargamming is to win, in any way possible and then the other kind who are there to enjoy themselves. I guess as long as you get out what you want from wargamming either is okay, I myself fall firmly onto the "Im here to have fun" side but that doesn't mean being competitive is wrong. As long as you are playing someone like minded it can be really fun, I've found if I play someone who's very competitive it's less fun for me as I don't get the friendly to and fro or the more casual and fun lists. When I have played against someone who played for fun though it suited me much more, we laughed and joked as our warlords did nothing to each-other for 3 turns of combat or we solved any rule queries with a die roll or a quick check in the rules, or even a trust in judgement, something a competitive player would not allow! So both kinds are completely fine to be, but you'll get more out of the game if you play the gamers who are of a similar mindset.<br />
<br />
2. I can't roll dice:<br />
<br />
I think I might be the unluckiest roller of dice to grace the planet. Or have I got the wrong technique? I have, on so many occasions, rolled below average and a few times ... well, rolling 8 shots that hit on threes and seeing 7 2's ... that was not my finest hour. And yet as I struggle to roll to hit and to wound, my opponent makes amour save after armour save. Is this just me? I am already considering praying to the dice gods each night, not sure if anything will fix my curse of rolling ones for terminator saves or not getting my psychic powers off, even if I use 4 dice for a warp charge 1. Where have the statistical rolls gone and why are they not with me?<br />
<br />
3. There are two types of wargamers:<br />
<br />
I know you're thinking, "hold on Callum, you said that earlier", well hang on, let me explain. The first type of wargamer is the one who paints their miniatures. Yes fear not, I'm not actually that forgetful, this is a different thing I have learnt. So yes these players take at least some care in the appearance of their models. Now I have seen a few armies with obviously varying degrees of quality when it comes to the paint job but that doesn't bother me, yes I'll be in awe of those who are amazing and I'll feel good about mine when I see someone with slightly less well painted models but the underlying thing here is I love seeing someone with painted miniatures. Good or bad they put an effort it, which is more than can be said for the other player. The one who leaves theirs grey or primed. I get that it's a hobby and you should take your time but when someone spends £100's on an army only to leave them all grey it confuses me. Now obviously some people don't like the painting, but to me it seems a waste of money to buy all those models if you aren't going to finish them, or at least pay someone else to paint them, if you're happy spending money on grey stuff why not just get it painted by someone who will make it look amazing?<br />
<br />
4. I want everything<br />
<br />
I have looked at almost every model from the 40k range, and some from other gaming platforms too, and I want them all ... anyone else have this? I have made plan after plan to buy all these things and then I have to remind myself that you need money to buy things. I'm honestly not sure I could ever buy too many models, though my girlfriend might disagree. So what do I plan to buy then? Well once I have my space marines up to 1500 points I plan to put together a 500 point Eldar army but I'm going to really focus on painting techniques and trying to pro paint them so I wouldn't expect to see them any time soon. There are plans to expand my reach to other gaming platforms in the near future too, perhaps to Infinity or Warmachine. I also have one more future "surprise" project that you will all find out about in due course ... best keep your eyes peeled this "movemeber".<br />
<br />
So yeah there's a small list of things I've learnt so far, give it another month and I'm certain I'll have learnt even more and I do look forward to doing so. Well thanks for reading, let me know some of the things that you learnt in your early days and maybe if there is anything I should look out for!<br />
<br />
Thanks<br />
